Pros and Cons of a Theory
Structuring Information Theory
The theory of structuring information can have both its pros and cons. It is proven to be an effective method if done correctly, “The decisions you make at this stage, on what your audience needs to see and when, and how you use the tools we have described in this book so far, will facilitate the successful communication and understanding of your content” (Coates and Ellison 91). This is a major pro as it makes understanding information a lot easier for yourself and other people. Another pro is that makes the process of completing certain tasks a lot faster. Since the structuring of data makes it easier to process information, it will lead to faster and more efficient work. The way data is structured allows for it to easily be followed, thus making reading it more efficient.
A con is trying to adapt to different platforms for delivering information. This can be difficult as these platforms vary in the way people take in the information. This causes the creator to develop different means of structuring information, whether it be for a poster, book, etc. Another con is that it can have some limitations as to how you structure the information. There aren’t too many ways to get creative when structuring data, specifically with hierarchies. Since it should be created in a structured and organized way, it can reduce the opportunity for creativity. While there are still ways to get creative with structuring information, it can be limiting.
